Shelton Haynes is the Chairman and the Chief Executive Officer of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC), a New York State Public-benefit corporation. The serial entrepreneur is an alumnus of Hampton University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology.
He commenced his career immediately after graduation, joining the NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development, where he managed the program’s admission process.
Shelton boasts vast experience as he worked at numerous levels in state and local governments. His extensive expertise earned him a promotion at the Housing Authority of DeKalb County in Georgia. He worked as the Chief Operating Officer for four years.
As time progressed, Shelton Haynes developed considerable leadership strengths, which assisted him in remodeling underachieving departments into esteemed ones based on quantifiable key performance indicators and compliance audits.
In 2016, Haynes relocated to the Big Apple from the Peach State, where he undertook the role of the Chief Operating Officer of Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. The Corporation is mandated with the advancement of Roosevelt Island, a small island in the East River that is a segment of the New York City borough of Manhattan.
RIOC is devoted to offering services that promote the island’s residential community. It governs the island’s roads, parks, buildings, sports facilities, and public transportation.
Haynes works in collaboration with the RIOC Board of Directors and is in charge of executing the strategic goals of the Corporation in conjunction with the chair, empowering the Board to discharge its governance operation.
Mr. Haynes is also bestowed with other responsibilities, including performing the executive and administrative tasks and day-to-day functions of the Corporation and overseeing the business and dealings of the Corporation.
Under Hayne’s leadership, RIOC recorded massive growth in its capital program by $15.1 million annually. His team apportioned funds to projects including the remodeling of the Blackwell House, a $2.9 million refurbishment, and the re-establishment project of a landmark home constructed in 1796.
Besides Roosevelt Island, Shelton Hayne has undertaken numerous other successful projects, such as the Roosevelt Island Youth Center. The refurbishment was worth $ 2.1 million and acted as a megaplex of youth advancement, engagement, and academic ministration, as well as a haven where youth can undertake an enrichment and educational programming.
