Increasing the human lifespan while also maintaining a high quality of life is a daunting challenge for scientists. While this fountain of youth currently remains out of reach, progress is being made every day thanks to the efforts and funding of people like futurologist and entrepreneur Jason Hope. Devoting many of his philanthropic endeavors to organizations like SENS Foundation (Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence), he hopes to help longevity technology reach its true potential.
Stem Cells are a Big Deal
According to the business leader, all around the world stem cells are center stage in the research to combat aging. Jason Hope explains that this is because they have amazing properties that other cells don’t since they’re taken from developing embryos. He also explains that this unique feature makes them a huge step forward in longevity research.
How Stem Cells are Used
Jason Hope informs about these procedures. One of the most impressive uses of stem cells so far was an experiment that used them to fight macular generation in the human eye. By putting stem cells in the retina, artificially created retinal cells and macular generation were achieved.
Jason Hope explains that other experiments are being conducted to figure out how to reduce stem cell rejection in organs such as the liver. While these procedures are slow going, they are much more scientifically sound than companies that promise to turn stem cells into a virtual fountain of youth. Furthermore, Hope provided a rather large donation to SENS Research Foundation, which is currently striving to gain new advances in regard to the aging process of humans.
Jason Hope understands that longevity research takes time and that there are risks and hurdles to overcome. Even so, he remains committed to the cause and favors a slow and steady approach because the potential healthcare benefits are limitless.
