Randy Douthit is the executive producer and director of Judy Justice. Judy Justice was a true crime documentary series on Investigation Discovery that followed the evolution of justice in five classic cases: The murder of Laci Peterson, The murder of Teresa Halbach, The disappearance of Etan Patz, The murder-kidnapping of Adam Walsh, and the death penalty trial in North Carolina.
After creating two successful reality shows on ID, Randy wanted to take on something more challenging and offer viewers something they’d never seen – real-life courtroom drama told through a non-linear timeline.
Randy and his team at Licton Springs Pictures began working almost three years ago to produce five episodes for this groundbreaking series which both educates and entertains audiences about the realities behind our judicial system.
The American Bar Association (ABA) Journal reported that Judy Justice “offers a different way of looking at a case. Each episode begins after a jury has found the defendant guilty, but then jumps in time to the earlier stages of the trial, including witness testimony and police investigations, before returning to the verdict. The non-linear format creates both suspense and empathy for the accused.”
Judy Justice debuted in January 2013 and became ID’s highest-rated series premiere of that year. The series was honored with an award from the International Documentary Association for its innovative non-linear approach to storytelling.
Judy Justice is not Randy Douthit’s first network television show. As a producer on reality TV, he experienced the “Big Brother” phenomenon in the UK and crossed over to America to produce the ABC Family hit show, “Huge.”
Before his work in television programming, Randy taught filmmaking at Columbia College Hollywood, where he received its Faculty Outstanding Achievement Award. He has several short films produced by MTV, Disney Channel, and ESPN. In addition to his work as an executive producer for countless other television shows, Randy has also worked as a screenwriter with credits, including “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” on NBC and “The Twilight Zone” on UPN.
Randy launched Licton Springs Pictures in 2013. Since its inception, the company has produced multiple hours of television programming and garnered several accolades, including a Daytime Emmy nomination, a Gold Telly Award, and an International Documentary Association Award.
