The New Fortress Energy organization is looking to bring a new energy supply to parts of Mexico that are traditionally struggling to stay connected to the energy grid. The supply of energy to the Baja California Sur and La Paz regions of Mexico has historically been sparse. Wes Edens is leading New Fortress Energy in its deals with the Mexican Government in the La Paz region.
Wes Edens gave the green light to begin construction on the ISO Flex System that will deliver Liquid Natural gas to the port of La Paz. The flex system will bring LNG from a pipeline owned by TC Energy to La Paz and Baja California Sur. The flex system includes barges designed to dock at the pipeline and carry LNG to the port. The barges will carry containers that will be loaded directly onto trucks for transportation to customers. Wes Edens and New Fortress Energy began construction on the offshore docking station in 2021. The first barges are being constructed in Texas for delivery in 2023.
New Fortress Energy has become a key partner for Mexico’s Comision Federal de Electridad agency. The energy supply issues in the La Paz region of Mexico have become a national problem. The Mexican President, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador will attend a ceremony to mark the landmark agreement between NFE and the Mexican Government.
The opening of the offshore LNG port off the coast of La Paz is one stage of many for NFE’s investment in Mexico. NFE’s existing power plant supplying electricity to La Paz will pass into the control of the Mexican Government as part of the deal.
