Brian Farley Brings Diverse Legal Experience to Acadia Healthcare Leadership

Brian Farley joined Acadia Healthcare as executive vice president and general counsel on July 26, 2023, bringing extensive experience from healthcare, technology, and telecommunications sectors. Farley oversees a team of attorneys responsible for all aspects of Acadia’s legal affairs and acts as a strategic advisor to the executive team and board of directors.

Before joining Acadia Healthcare, Brian Farley served as chief legal officer and corporate secretary at GoHealth, one of the nation’s largest publicly traded Medicare Advantage marketplace and senior-focused healthcare companies. He joined GoHealth in June 2020, approximately one month before the company’s initial public offering. His responsibilities included leading the company’s legal, regulatory, compliance, SEC, government affairs, and cybersecurity functions.

Farley’s tenure at GoHealth provided direct experience with public company requirements and regulatory oversight in the healthcare sector. He oversaw legal efforts during the IPO, ensuring proper disclosure documentation, securities law compliance, and corporate governance structures appropriate for a publicly traded entity.

Prior to GoHealth, Brian Farley spent seven years at Allscripts (later known as Veradigm Inc.), a healthcare technology company. He held several positions during his tenure, including executive vice president, general counsel, and chief administrative officer from May 2013 to June 2020. Earlier in his time at Allscripts, he served as senior vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary.

Farley’s responsibilities at Allscripts encompassed broad oversight of legal functions for a healthcare IT organization. The company provides electronic health record systems, practice management software, and other technology solutions to healthcare providers. This experience positioned Farley to understand technology implementation challenges and regulatory requirements specific to healthcare data management.

Before entering the healthcare sector, Brian Farley spent eight years at Motorola Mobility LLC, a provider of mobile communication devices and video delivery solutions. He held various positions including corporate vice president and general counsel from 2005 to 2013. His responsibilities included leading global legal efforts during significant transactions, including Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility.

Earlier in his career, Farley served as corporate counsel at Level 3 Communications from 2004 to 2005. He also held senior legal roles at Rhythms NetConnections, e.spire Communications, and began his legal career as an associate at Collier, Shannon Rill & Scott from 1994 to 1998.

Brian Farley holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economics from Colorado College. He earned his Juris Doctor from The George Washington University National Law Center. Farley also completed an Executive MBA, though the institution was not specified in public disclosures.

Farley succeeded Chris Howard, who retired from Acadia Healthcare after 12 years as general counsel and secretary. Howard remained as an advisor through February 2024 to support the leadership transition. This transition period allowed Farley to gain institutional knowledge about Acadia Healthcare’s operations, existing legal matters, and relationships with outside counsel.

Brian Farley’s areas of responsibility at Acadia Healthcare include securities law, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, litigation, labor and employment, legal compliance, and regulatory matters. This broad mandate reflects the complexity of operating 270 behavioral healthcare facilities across 39 states and Puerto Rico.
