Randy Douthit is best known for his position as the Executive Producer of the television show Judge Judy. His career, however, started way before that show. All of his skills and work habits created over his prior work gave him the knowledge to be an integral part of the success of Judge Judy.
Douthit started in local television. His philosophy was always to work hard, and it has paid off. His jump to national television included work of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and then three shows on CNN. Those ventures were highly successful. They included Larry King Live, Crossfire, and the Capital Gang. They were the jumping off point for Judge Judy.
September 1996 saw the debut of a television show entitled Judge Judy. It featured Judy Sheindlin as the person presiding over a courtroom where individuals brought their legal disputes for resolution. The Executive Producer of the show was Randy Douthit. He stayed with the show for 25 years and became acutely aware of the reasons for its being an Emmy award-winning show. Judge Judy plus a hard-working crew.
Douthit has now moved on with the Judge for her new show that is streaming. It now carries the name Judy Justice. Despite what you see, he says Judy Justice is warm hearted and loves her children and grandchildren. He has also seen that being emotional about your case is not a good idea.
An example of the hard work of Douthit is shown by his creating 120 episodes of Judy Justice in a three-month period. That pretty much sums up his career.
Randy Douthit discussed the challenges of working and producing during the pandemic. He cited additional costs such as testing and masks. Mainly, though, the extra expenses were the result of a slower time to finish the work. That was due to the safety precautions in place. In the end, the work was done as long as everyone followed the necessary procedures.
